NBA DRAFT: DAWN OF A NEW BREED

This upcoming summer marks the beginning of a lifelong dream by a group of young men who have been taken center stage on both college and international hardwood for several years now. The National Basketball Association will be holding its annual draft for the 30 NBA teams choosing more than 60 consensus prospects. The draft features two rounds with several teams holding picks in each round.

This year, the Cleveland Cavaliers were able to get the #1 Overall Pick after last summer's LeBron James fiasco and exit. James was the Cavs last top pick. Overall TOP prospect for the 2011 NBA Draft is Duke University's own Kyrie Irving, a 6'2 point guard drawing comparisons to NBA all-star Chris Paul. The Cavs hope he is the savior to the loss of King James.

Other players rounding out the top prospects in this draft are: Brandon Knight (Kentucky), Jan Vesely (Czech Republic), Derrick Williams (Arizona), Enes Kanter (Kentucky), Alec Burcs (Colorado), Bismok Biyombo (Congo), Marcus Morris (Kansas), and last year's NCAA Championship winner and University of Connecticut All-American Kemba Walker.

The past has featured many big-name stars in the draft, but with the newly placed rule of keeping players in college at least one year have led to a loss on the high school buzz players like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Dwight Howard who skipped college and were drafted to revive their respective franchises. Although not a very deep draft, loaded with dynamic stars, this pool has some solid players who will look to contribute on NBA squads soon! Keep an eye out for familiar names to be called and seen on your TV screens on Draft Night (June 23rd, 2011 @ 8 PM).
